What is the general consensus about renting to someone who is an "undocumented" person?

If they meet your rent criteria they can be some of the most reliable residents. I would do a background check, credit check etc...the biggest challenge is usually a language barrier and verifying income, you may need to be willing to put in some extra effort on those issues, but an undocumented person can end up being very good long term resident.

I agree with Bill, especially when it comes to Spanish speaking tenants. As with any group, most are good people but there are bad apples in every bunch. You need to do some due diligence.

I also agree with Bill that a language barrier is a big problem. It will be hard to understand a person's circumstances and background if you can't communicate with them.

Bill, I am curious about your answer to do background and credit checks.
How do you do them if someone does not have an ITIN and no driver's license?

    Thanks,
