Hello, I am new to the area and need a good source for carpet. I mainly use builder's grade carpet and just looking for someone that can sell me rolls for a cheap price. If anyone has some suggestions please write me back.

Hey Jonathan, The company you want is iDeal Floors.  They're one of the best companies of any kind I've ever done business with.  Give Nate Gotthardt a call at 817-715-1141, and tell him I sent you.  Also, be sure to tell him you're a member of DFW REI Club, so you can get their Diamond pricing.

Thanks for the reply Robin. I have not had a chance to make it to iDeal yet but I have found another supplier who runs more of a wholesale business. For his basic Plush carpet he will sell it for $3.99/SQYD by the roll. This seems like a very good price compared to what I used to pay but I would like to get a second opinion. If anyone is familiar with carpet pricing in the DFW metroplex please send me some prices so I can compare. Any feedback will be appreciated.

It is a small warehouse on Valley View Ln. by DFW airport. I was going to pick up a friend at the airport and just happened to notice they were loading carpet as I drove by so I stopped in. Very low key type place but it looked like they had alot of inventory and there were several others buying at the same time I was there. I think its called the boss? I don't remember exactly but I have a house that needs carpet so I am going to give them a shot. Who do you use Jesus?

    Jonathan,

I think when you run ALL the numbers you are going to find that 1) "the Boss'" price is about the same as (or more than) iDeal's or 2) you are working for $0.50/hour.

$4/yard for carpet sounds pretty good -- until you add in demo and removal of the old carpet and pad, cleaning the underlaying surface, fixing tac-strips, pick-up and delivery of the new carpet and pad, price of the new pad, installation & clean-up costs, make-ready repairs, and warranty.

I don't know about you, but I bill my time at $100/hour. Why would I want to deal with all the above when I can call Nate Gotthardt at iDeal Floors once and have him send me a bill while I spend my time on "highest and best use" (finding/doing profitable deals)?

My great-grand-father used to counsel me not to be "penny-wise and pound-foolish."

    Just a thought.

    Greg,

I have to say that your post made me really do some digging to break down the prices this morning. Here is what I came up with. Diamond pricing for basic plush carpet with padding and install will run me about $12.87 per yard and with the other guy it will be about $7.88 per yard. $4.99 per yard savings (or profit). The house I just bought last month needs a little over 211 yards of carpet which is about $1052 difference. Both are MUCH better than what I payed in Ohio so I am very happy! I also went ahead and price shopped some laminate floors. I normally use a nice 8mm with a traditional finish but since I moved here I have seen a ton of the "hand scrape" look so I am wanting to try it out (seems to be what people like in Dallas). I saw one that I really liked on their website and asked for the Diamond pricing. Diamond pricing is $1.49 per square foot for this particular laminate, installation is $1.75 per sqaure foot and the basic padding is $.18 per square foot coming out to $3.42 per square foot. I got the product name and model so I could compare around town. I had a hard time finding it so I did some research and called the manufacturer and they told me who carries this product line and to give them a call. I found contractor pricing for $1.09, $1.25 per square foot for install with old carpet take up and haul off, basic padding is $.12 which is $2.46 per foot installed. This project only needs 425 square feet but so far with the carpet I have saved myself $1460 by doing some shopping. In no way am I trying to ruffle any feathers because it seems like you guys really like iDeal but I was really hoping to find some better deals on this stuff so I dont have to pay retail even if it is discounted retail. I also checked a place called Ged's but it doesn't seem to be any cheaper. My flooring job will be happening in about 2 weeks hopefully so I will let you know how everything goes.

WOW! Those prices seem pretty awesome. Where did you find them? Who did you talk to? What was their number?

And no worries about our "feathers." We are all grown-ups here. We can handle direct feedback -- especially when it saves us money.

I also found a new carpet / wood lament supplier iDeal (formally Big Bob's) is getting some competion. One difference was the "extras" on wood floor. The company I used installed 8mm hand scraped and simply gave me a per square foot price. iDeal's estimate added on every little thing,  pad, transitions, quarter round and the list goes on. Anyway, I think there are some new options in town!!

    Guys,

THANK YOU for letting us know less expensive alternatives exist. That said, please tell us who they are and how to get in contact with them so we can start using them.

    Thanks!
