Real Estate Online Presence Idea

I have been kicking around an idea and need to do some research.  I would like to see if anyone who is currently in the real estate field would be willing to give me some feedback and constructive criticism.

Would there be any interest in a service that helped local real estate agents improve their online presence for their properties?  The service could be as simple as going out to take pictures of properties when the agent is too busy to do it themselves, updating existing websites with pictures and info for the property, or as extensive as creating an individualized website for the agent that would allow them to upload and update their own site or doing a monthly fee to keep it updated for them.

My reason for this thought is that recently, I have moved to the Dallas/Ft. Worth area, and was looking at houses for rent.  Going the typical route of looking online, I got an idea of what was out there and went about my search that route.  One of the things I noticed though as I drove through the neighborhoods I was interested in was that many of the agents and property management signs in the yards had only phone numbers on them or a website listed that was no longer active. The only way to find out any information on the property was to call the agent and wait on a response.  Further research showed me two things, many agents have no online presence at all, the houses for rent are listed nowhere online, and many times when the properties are listed there are no pictures or very limited information listed for the property.   I found five companies with this issue alone today in just a one mile stretch of looking. I have always been interested in the field of real estate, and I thought this might make an interesting endeavor for extra income, or who knows what possible avenues the idea might eventually take.

Daylene, you have an interesting idea and you have identified an unfilled technical need.  I recommend you do research by doing a couple of things:  product development and marketing.

Decide all of the specifics about what you will do for the customer and the pricing, then try to reach your target audience.  You can try to find these realtors with no online presence as you find them, and you can also meet realtors and grow your network by going to REI meetings.  Meetup.com is a good site for finding local meetings.

Investors and others may also be in need of your talents, and you can create customized products for these people.  You might also get a first look at investment properties in the process and get a few deals this way.

You might also want to check around and see if there are any other people doing something similar to this.

You have a good idea, go give it a shot!
