Shopping for your own title insurance

    I'm watching Clark Howard on HLN, and he was just talking about shopping around to find your own title insurance policy rather than just using a local title co.  At this point, I'm not saying that I'm planning to do this or that it's even a good idea, but it was intriguing, because he suggested that you could save lots of money.  Has any one heard of this?  Pros?  Cons?  Are there any special legal issues with it in Texas?  Just wondering.

    I have been having a lot of trouble with finding a good and affordable title ins company.  I was using First Am Title Ins for many years but their fees are to high.  Recently I did a double closing with them and they gave me no type of discount for the 2nd closing.  I had to let them go and I am now with Providence Title but I am still searching for better rates.  If you happen to come across a good Title company with affordable rates please share.

    I also work with Providence. Ana Lowe is a good contact there. I just closed one with them yesterday. Ask for discounts, they can only say no. If you are a good repeat customer and use them when you can, I think you will be pleased. I normally went to the Southlake office, and they are in the process of moving today! Here is Ana's contact information. Tell her I said HELLO!

    Where would you begin looking for you own title insurance policy Robin? Do you mean searching for a third party company not in Texas?
