Fake pay stubs/statements

To tenant applicant screeners: Are you aware of what appear to be available fake pay stubs, such as those I came across and downloaded from Scribd?

I was able to download these--for free, supposedly--but of course had to give info to do that. I have no intention of paying for or subscribing to this, but it seems to be a gold mine for applicants who want to falsify their financial information.

How is this legal? What can we do to shut it down?

I self-manage my rentals and have run into this before. The only truth on the application was their name and SS#.

I run their credit report and verify what I can. I call the employer to verify employment but this can be difficult if it is a large company. In this case it was and employment verification was outsourced and not helpful. Doing research on the remainder of the application as well as the credit report I was able to find the deception.

Unfortunately i don't know of any way to report people like this, that misrepresent themselves.

You can't shut it down.  Even if you are able to stop one company, another one will just pop up. Trying to stop it through the legal system will only end up costing you money and wasting time.

It is the state of the world today. This and many other reasons are why I have sold off all my rentals. It has become a non-profitable business.

Yeah, I just don't trust anybody these days, and it makes me even suspect people who are telling the truth. Sigh
