In the meeting today we talked about negotiating. I have read many books on negotiating and these two books are some of the favorite on the subject.

“You Can Get Anything You Want (But You Have to Do More Than Ask)
Secrets of Power Negotiating” by Roger Dawson

“Getting to Yes: Negotiating Agreement Without Giving In” By Roger Fisher and William L. Ury

Funny this comes up at this time...I just picked up a "Negotiating for Dummies" book from the Office Depot near me that had books at 70% off.  Sadly it wasnt one you mentioned, it was written by Michael C. Donaldson.  I like the format of the Dummies books since it has lots of headings and icons etc.  But as for the content, it may not compare to the ones you recommended.  I hope to try those out too!  Thanks for thinking of recommending good books on the subject.  It is often an overlooked component to buying houses!

I got both books for ~ $10 bucks total on Amazon. Rick, thank you for these suggestions.  I look forward to reading them over the next few months.

    Recommend "Negotiations" by Jack Miller

A seminar workbook designed around everyday events and transactions

normally encountered by those attempting to build an estate; aimed to maximize

effectiveness as investors or as business people whether buying or selling.

I actually just picked up Dawson's book also I'm looking forward to reading it. I know it comes highly recommended.

Along with that I got John Kehoe's Mind Power book. I started it last night it's a great read albeit quick. I do feel like it's a bit silly though that he supposedly went in to the woods for three years to discover what was already written in Think and Grow Rich. I'm about a third of the way through and while I really like the way it's laid out and explained, It's nothing I haven't heard from Napoleon Hill, Tony Robbins, Brian Tracy, et al.

That said, I used powers I've learned from the authors I mentioned last weekend when I bought a new car. Not negotiation in particular, but doing away with self-limiting beliefs. The night before going to look at the car I told myself that I was a great negotiator. I pictured myself saying certain things and acting "as if" I was not to be trifled with. Wouldn't you know it, I owned the poor kid on the other side of the table. Eventually his manager came in with the numbers I wanted and said that I was "beating up his guy". I felt great and it makes me love my new car even more!
